FISHING AT MICKLER’S LANDING

Mickler’s Landing is one of the most recognized recreational spots in Ponte Vedra Beach.  The great range of additional facilities at the park can add to your surf fishing experience.

The Mickler’s Landing Experience

Mickler’s Landing is located on the southern end of Ponte Vedra Beach, just north of the Guana Tolomato Matanzas Research Reserve. You can park at the adjacent lot and there are restrooms, showers and a mix of pavilions, picnic tables and grills if you want to extend your stay after your fishing experience.

Mickler’s Landing provides a relatively gradual shoreline and waves are typically moderate, so it is easier to find the right spot for your surf fishing experience.

For many, the combination of being barefoot in the sand, hearing the waves and seeing passing birds collectively gives a really unique fishing experience.  Go early in the morning.  The beach is less crowed, the incoming tides can be best for “reading the tides.”

As you are out fishing, remember these waters are very sensitive ecosystems that can easily be damaged.  You can be a “Sustainable PVB Guest” by

  • Make sure to not let any fishing related materials or refuse fall into the surf that could damage the waters.
  • Take advantage of the water bottle filling station to refill reusable water bottles at Mickler’s Landing Park.
  • Use the trash station to discard garbage. Visitors and residents are encouraged to recycle—look for recycling bins.
  • Enjoy the water by wearing a hat and ocean safe sunscreens. Stick to sunscreens that are free of oxybenzone and octinoxate, two of the most common ingredients found in chemical formulas.

Tips From The Experts

  1. Get to the Recreation Area early.  Parking will be more available, the fish are most active, and few families are out making for a peaceful environment.
  2. Bring a hat, sunscreen, water and wear comfortable clothing for casting that can get wet. Also think about getting waterproof phone case if you plan to carry your phone.
  3. Bring a PVC surf pipe to place your rod in to protect your gear from rising tides and breaking surf.
